Elizabeth Griffin was a sharecropper in the Mississippi Delta. She believed Education was the key to success. Even though, she only had an eighth-grade education, she pushed her family and ALL children to go further.  To her credit nine of her children have college degrees and many of her grandchildren have or are pursuing their Doctorate Degrees. True to her motto which was “trying to make a 100 because 99 ½ won’t do”, she pushed everyone to chase knowledge. Be part of her Legacy by following her motto and don’t stop until you obtain that Degree!

Alfred L. Davis was a Ground Controller for NASA space missions.  He graduated from Oakland University in 1978 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering.  Alfred invested his time and money to encourage family and friends to purse a degree. After a nephew experienced financial hardship in college, he stepped in to assist and stated, “you are now my investment.”  The winner of this scholarship will become part of his investment legacy in higher education!

Born in 1905, Theodore “Mr. Son” Neal was a hard-working and generous man. Outside of his custodian job, he owned a pig and chicken farm. Having a loving heart, he gave back to the community by giving away eggs and sharing a hog on Thanksgiving.  The winner of this Scholarship will demonstrate their commitment to the community.

For that reason, the Stephon Vaughn Scholarship will encourage and support an adopted or foster care student pursuing college or career opportunities.  The winner of this scholarship will demonstrate their ability to overcome challenges.
